Barakhinei lexicon

Stress which does not fall on the last closed syllable is indicated by an underline. Thus achel = achél, âdhetu = âdhétu, and abor = ábor.

Symbols: v1, v5 = verbal conjugations 1 (elirê) and 5 (klachê); conj. 3 (lelê) unmarked
m/f/n = masculine, feminine, neuter nouns (plural indicated where needed)

Etymologies are given in [brackets]. Words in CAPITALS are from Cadhinor, and have the same root meaning as the Barakhinei if unglossed. For more information on the etymology of Verdurian words, see the Verdurian-English Dictionary; for derivations of Cadhinor, Cuêzi, and Methaiun words, see the appropriate grammars.

Borrowings into Verdurian from Barakhinei include adeleca 'comedy of manners', Barahin 'Barakhun', Barahina 'Barakhina', barahinei 'Barakhinei', Bérunor 'Bérunor', buduk 'elcarin coin', céshuash 'tribe', chayma 'tent', chinzik 'gooseberry', dharim 'wild', ebdu 'troll', Elkarinor 'Elkarinor', harshi 'emur coin', hinalek 'silver coin', hurin 'gold coin', iladil 'silver coin', kanheu 'outlander', kenek 'camel', ktuvóc 'ktuvok', meilad 'cobaltite', meucibor 'niccolite', moshtol 'feldspar', Mútkün 'Mútkün', nashtory 'gold coin; dictator', orhek 'gold coin', pelánt 'silver coin', rafsany 'Rafsani', Rhanor 'Rhânor', Rhodh 'Rhoth', usuku 'jester'.

One of the curiosities of Barakhinei is its preservation of a number of Cuêzi words. Naturally, the Eärdur valley, the Cuzeian homeland, retained more Cuêzi words than the rest of the Cadhinor-speaking plain. Some of these survivals include air 'estate', âtilh 'pond', bamolilh 'menstruation', chizu 'valley', dede 'breast', deri 'create', echevê 'make right', ekun 'prince', evis 'preacher', fisnava 'study', ilôd 'silver', kankhê 'odd', lêsht 'lest', liz 'glade', mizilhek 'proverb', osôku 'screwed', rômbis 'drum', sarenek 'flatlander', sôki 'screw', zidi 'annoying'; as well as the loan-translations âsachek 'monogamy', kûkrur 'penis', nôchati 'camp', subnhês 'birth ceremony'.

The lexicon currently contains about 1435 words.
